It has compact, round and fresh light green leaves on creeping stems, it creates a fast-growing carpet in the front of the aquarium. The plant can grow in light shade, but requires good lighting conditions. When Co₂ is applied and well fertilized, it develops faster and denser. It is ideal for the foreground of an aquarium and is used in aquascaping as an alternative to Hemianthus callitrichoides 'Cuba'.
